Catherine Cheung is the Interim Co-Director of PILnet’s Hong Kong Office. Catherine is jointly responsible for the overall management of operations of the Hong Kong office as well as designing and implementing projects aimed at improving access to justice and building the community of public interest-minded lawyers and law students in Hong Kong. With an aspiration to combat inequalities, pursue social justices and civil liberties, Catherine obtained experiences in organizing political campaigns, social movements, and fundraising events in Hong Kong. Her interest in human rights in Hong Kong and China grew through her work experience with Chinese NGO partners in a London-based organization promoting human rights and public participation in China. Prior to joining PILnet, she worked for a philanthropic foundation vetting grant proposals around the theme of safe migration and civil society development in Southeast Asia. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Catherine graduated with a B.A. in social policy and administration from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an LL.M. in human rights from the University of Hong Kong.
