Juvenile Justice Pro Bono: Enhancing Legal and Social Support for Youth and Families
Date: 3 December
Time: 10.30 – 12.00
Session Description:
If it takes a village to raise a child, what role can a pro bono lawyer play in bringing the village together? In this session, we will explore the critical role that pro bono lawyers can play in assisting juveniles charged within the criminal justice system and how their impact can be amplified when they collaborate with social workers, youth counsellors, and other social service professionals.
The session will provide an overview of the juvenile justice system, the dominant considerations when sentencing juveniles, and the unique challenges faced by young people and their families. We will discuss best practices for pro bono lawyers in navigating the complexities of juvenile cases, while highlighting the importance of a holistic approach that addresses the social, emotional, and familial aspects of the situation.
