Uranzaya Batdorj
Founder, Nomad Lawyer LLC
Uranzaya Batdorj is a Founder of Nomad Lawyer LLC in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. While her core legal practice focuses on corporate, business, and commercial law, her most meaningful work has emerged from lived experience and grassroots community connection.
Over the past decade, she has contributed pro bono legal research and policy insights to international publications, including the World Bank’s Doing Business and Women, Business and the Law reports—efforts that reflect my long-term commitment to improving the legal and regulatory environment in Mongolia.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and her maternity leave, she launched a grassroots pro bono initiative to support women—especially mothers—facing legal challenges such as domestic violence, custody disputes, and unregistered marriages. Through digital platforms, she provided over 800 hours of free legal advice to individuals aged 16 to 72, many in remote areas with limited access to legal services.
These experiences have shown her that effective legal aid must be personalized, empathetic, and practical, while also backed by institutional frameworks to ensure long-term sustainability.
She is honored to participate in this session and to exchange strategies for building inclusive, institutionalized pro bono systems that strengthen justice, empower communities, and advance human rights across the region.
