Shaun McCarthy

Associate Professor Dr Shaun McCarthy is the Director of Clinical Research and Director of the Older Persons Legal Clinic based at the University of Newcastle Legal Centre (UNLC) in the University of Newcastle School of Law and Justice, Australia. Shaun has acted in multiple high profile public interest cases at the UNLC. He has been involved in the UNLC flagship clinic ‘Law on the Beach’ at Newcastle and Merewether beaches since its inception in 2004. Shaun’s research includes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 10 – Reduced Inequalities – and 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. He is a Chief Investigator and Consultant Expert in Law and Justice in the Name, Narrate and Navigate (NNN) program. NNN is a trauma informed and culturally responsive program for young people aged 12-18 years who are at risk of, or already using, violence.
