Kamaljit Kaur Lehal

Kamaljit Kaur Lehal received her law degree in 1989 from the University of British Columbia and was called to the bar in 1990. She opened her own law firm in 1992, Lehal Law Corporation, and her practice is focused, exclusively, on immigration law. Ms. Lehal is also both a certified civil and family mediator, as well as a Qualified Arbitrator.

Ms. Lehal is the Chair of the CBA National Immigration Section. She is a past chair of the CBA National Equality and Diversity Committee. Ms. Lehal was a member at large of the CBA National Women Lawyer’s Forum.

Ms. Lehal is, actively, involved in policy reform and advocacy for immigrant women who are victims of intimate partner violence, her advocacy was instrumental in the creation of an expedited immigration process for these victims of violence.

She has successfully advocated for trauma informed provisions in policy and guidelines that govern hearings before the Refugee Protection Division and Refugee Appeal Division.

Ms. Lehal is a regular presenter on topics in immigration law. She has prepared as an expert witness before both the House and Senate on immigration related matters.
