Bio: Dr Azmi Sharom is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University Malaya where he has taught for 27 years. His areas of expertise are human rights and environmental law. He is the Chief Editor for the Human Rights and Peace in Southeast Asia Series which now consists of five volumes. His chapter entitled ‘Fundamental liberties in the Federal Constitution,’ in Breaking the Silence: Voices of Moderation – Islam in a Constitutional Democracy can’t be read because the book has been banned. He is a columnist for The Star and Sin Chew Jit Poh and his newspaper and magazine articles have been compiled in a book entitled Brave New World: Greatest Hits.
