About

Taro Tanaka is the Global Legal Officer of LEDGE, where he pursues public interest litigation and coordinates pro bono initiatives. He is concurrently a partner at Miura & Partners in Tokyo, where his practice areas include business and human rights and corporate responsibility, and is a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association.

His work bridges corporate legal practice and public interest. Before returning to private practice, Taro spent several years with international organisations — including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the UN Office of the SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict (OSRSG-SVC), and Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) — advancing accountability and access to justice for survivors of human rights violations across the world.

A longtime advocate for gender equality and LGBTQ rights, Taro is a member of Marriage for All Japan (which pursues same-sex marriage litigation in Japan) and of Lawyers for LGBTQ & Allies Network (LLAN), a Japanese network of legal professionals supporting LGBTQ people and allies. He holds an LL.M. from New York University School of Law, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar.
