Natural Disaster Legal Relief: Collaborative Pro Bono Efforts to Assist Survivors

This session explores collaborative models that bring together legal nonprofits, private attorneys, law students, and other stakeholders to respond to natural disasters, highlighting the role of pro bono in addressing urgent and long-term legal needs. Drawing on examples from the United States and beyond, participants will learn how pro bono volunteers can support low-income communities disproportionately affected by disasters, from immediate relief to ongoing recovery and rights protection.

Through discussion, case examples, and interactive exercises, attendees will share successful approaches, explore new models, and develop strategies to strengthen or create collaborative networks. The session emphasizes practical ways pro bono engagement can expand access to justice in the context of climate and disaster-related challenges, while fostering a global community of learning and support.
