Disrupting Transactional Justice: Pro Bono Legal Education Through TikTok for People Who Use Drugs

This session explores the use of TikTok and digital platforms for pro bono legal education and community-based empowerment, focusing on women and gender-diverse people who use drugs in Indonesia. Participants will learn how community paralegals and pro bono legal service providers work together to expand access to justice, from building legal literacy and documenting rights violations at the grassroots level to providing formal legal representation in court.

Drawing on Suar Perempuan Lingkar Napza Nusantara (SPINN)’s LINTAS initiative, the session shows how workshops integrate human rights education, trauma-informed care, and critical analysis of drug policy to strengthen self-advocacy and support systemic change. Through discussion and practical examples, attendees will see how community-driven and pro bono legal efforts can be combined to deliver gender-responsive, rights-based interventions and address structural barriers in punitive legal systems.
