Leena Ghosh

Ms. Leena Ghosh is currently the Assistant Director, Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Civil Society Engagements and Interaction with ASEAN Associated Entities, from the Community Affairs Development Directorate of the ASEAN Secretariat, based in Jakarta. She has been serving as the Head of Division for the unit that services the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), which acts as a regional secretariat for the AICHR. Prior to her joining the ASEAN Secretariat, she was the Assistant Advisor for Multilateral Affairs in Asia at the International Committee of the Red Cross, based at their regional office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She was also the Head of the Legal Division at the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) after leaving legal practice in Malaysia. She has been admitted as a Barrister at Law in England and Wales and is able to practice there, as she did the Conversion Course to Practice as a Barrister in England and Wales. She is also admitted as a practicing lawyer both in Malaysia and Singapore. She practiced both criminal law and civil litigation for several years in Malaysia. She has a double Masters in Law (LL.M) in International Business Legal Studies from the from the University of Exeter, England and an M.A. in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the Human Rights Center, University of Essex, England. She has been an active member of the Bar Council Sub Committee on Human Rights and Bar Council Legal Aid Committee.
